Early morning, June 12th we welcomed this colt foal we had been waiting 4 years + 356 days for. After several failed breeding attempts, June 2021 brought exciting news that Surrender Dew Drop (aka Dewy) had finally caught and kept her pregnancy. This colt is a culmination of several years of effort and heartbreaks but he has made the wait worth it!
His trot is swinging and expressive, with his walk showing excellent overstep and swing. We are pleased that Finn scored Premium foal at his Westfalen foal inspections, scoring all 8’s. Inspectors comments included: good type, trot uphill, swinging, canter uphill. Finn tied for top 3 scoring GRP colts in North America! See results here. He is branded and registered with Westfalen, which includes a microchip and USEF lifetime number.
He has enjoyed a youth of turnout on our 6 acres of pasture with our geldings, learning to be social and enjoying a low pressure start to life. Through that formative time, he has endured some very large growth spurts and at 14.1 1/2 at 2.5 years, is showing a slowing to his growth and learning to master his parts. His character is unbeatable; he is incredibly calm and collected when put into new situations, yet he has shown us he has the ability to turn on the spice as needed. Finn stands well for the farrier, enjoys being groomed and fussed on, stands for showers and is great for leading. His education will continue with us and his price will increase accordingly.
Why we made this match: Finn’s dam, Surrender Dew Drop, was imported from Europe many years ago, by others. She has been nothing but a wonderful ambassador for the German Riding pony with an unflappable temperament, willingness to please her humans and so easy to handle she earned the nickname ‘Unicorn’. Finn’s sire, Deja d’Or is known to be very similar in temperament. We believe horses/ponies should be fun and part of fun is being willing. This combination brings together some of the best temperaments in the GRP right here in North America!
